Abstract Elucidating the functional principles of neural circuits in the brain is a major goal of contemporary neuroscience. Achieving this goal will deepen our understanding of brain development and neurological disorders, while also guiding the development of computers based on new principles. The two Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A) projects, “Dynamic Connectome” and “Multicellular Neurobiocomputing,” share this common goal while taking different approaches. This joint international symposium aims to foster communication among researchers in these fields and to create opportunities for new research directions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Let there be Neulite: A short introduction of a lightweight neuron simulator

Date July 29, 2026 13:00-17:00
Venue Room 403, 4F, Kobe International Conference Center
Hosted by Yamazaki Lab., Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering, The University of Electro-Communications
Organizer Tadashi Yamazaki
Speaker Tadashi Yamazaki
Abstract This half-day tutorial on Neulite introduces a lightweight simulator for biophysically detailed neuron models. Compatible with BMTK, Neulite features a minimalist 2,000-line C kernel for extreme performance and easy customization.

Agenda:
Part 1: Setup and replicating BMTK Tutorials 1 & 4.
Part 2: Kernel code walk-through from single-neuron to population-scale models.

Requirements: Laptop with Python, C compiler, and Git.
